A Theory of Change for Open Education Resources (OER)

OER Africa, an initiative of SAIDE, has been established to play a leading role in driving the development and use of OER in higher education systems on the African continent. This article reflects the central thinking of Catherine Ngugi, the OER Africa Programme Director, and Neil Butcher, the OER Africa Strategist.

 

Expansion of Quality Teacher Development in Botswana

The National Professional Diploma in Education (NPDE) is approaching the end of its life span as an interim professional development programme in South Africa. However, it has received a new lease on life in Botswana, through the agency of Ba Isago University College. Tony Mays reports.

OER Africa at the Hewlett Foundation

Catherine Ngugi and Neil Butcher travelled to the headquarters of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation in March 2009. The purpose of the visit was to meet with the outgoing and incoming directors of Open Educational Resources. Catherine Ngugi reports on the visit.

 

Commonwealth of Learning Mobile Technology Research

In our last issue, Alice Barlow-Zambodla provided an overview of projects using mobile technologies in Africa in a desk-top research project for the Commonwealth of Learning. This follow-up article focuses more specifically on two case studies and challenges for mobile technology projects in a developing world context.
