Open Learning in the Post Schooling System: A Case for Open Schooling in South Africa

Maryla Bialobrzeska of Saide investigates the case for Open Schooling in South Africa as an option for introducing open learning into the Post Schooling System

The Hewlett Grantees Meeting on Open Education Resources, 2011

Since its inception in 2008, Saide's OER Africa initiative has been represented at the annual meeting of OER grantees of the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation. These meetings have proved an excellent opportunity for networking with fellow grantees, interacting with Foundation staff and broadening our understanding of the practice of OER across the world. Catherine Ngugi reports.

PHEA Educational Technology Initiative's Second Inter-Institutional Workshop

Over the last few years Saide has run an Educational Technology Initiative (ETI) supporting seven universities in Sub-Saharan Africa. The Initiative is funded by the Partnership in Higher Education in Africa (PHEA). Monica Mawayo gives a brief report on the achievements of this workshop.

NWU Augments Its ODL Capacity

Tony Mays reports on the inauguration of a new building at North West University (NWU) dedicated to open and distance learning (ODL).

Growing an Institutional Health OER Initiative: A Case Study of the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), Ghana

In 2008, the William and Flora Hewlett Foundation sponsored a project to develop health OER through collaboration between African institutions. This project is a joint effort between Saide's OER Africa Initiative, the College of Health Sciences at KNUST, the University of Ghana, the University of Cape Town, the University of the Western Cape and the University of Michigan. Jenny Louw provides an abridged version of a case study on KNUST's experience with OER.
