Low-Cost Computers

SAIDE has recently been exploring the functionality of a number of low-cost computers for use in one of our projects, the Affordable Access Program. The Program is being piloted in four South African higher education institutions by the International Partnership for Digital Publications and project-managed by SAIDE. Frans Pitjeng, Alice-Barlow Zambodla and Jenny Louw provide an overview of the devices that have been tested.

 

Kronberg Declaration

SAIDE’s Director, Jenny Glennie, was most honoured to have been invited by UNESCO to join a small group of ‘visionaries’ to develop a statement on the future of knowledge acquisition and sharing. The group assembled in June 2007 in the picturesque surroundings of the Kronberg Palace near Frankfurt, Germany for a one-day workshop.
