About African Storybook
Through African Storybook, we recognise the profound power of early childhood development to shape and enrich young minds. By offering over 5,000 freely accessible, openly licensed picture storybooks in more than 260 languages of Africa, we nurture literacy, ignite imagination, and provide young children with the resources to grow, learn, and thrive. Since 2014 our platform has offered culturally relevant, age- and context- appropriate resources that promote pleasure reading and learning for children across Africa.
Through the African Storybook Reader and Maker Apps, children and parents can access offline libraries and create their own storybooks, respectively. by partnering with local communities, educators, and artists, we help overcome the lack of indigenous language materials, ensuring equal learning opportunities for all.
We support organisations, educators, and communities in translating, creating, and publishing storybooks, offering a unique opportunity to address the educational needs of Africa’s children.
We also offer support and training for using storybooks in creative and meaningful ways in different contexts.
